“Innovation is taking two things that exist and putting them together in a new way”
– Tom Freston
Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATLs) are being established in schools all around India as part of the Atal Innovation Mission’s mission to “Cultivate One Million Children in India as Neoteric Innovators.” Hallmark Public School, one of the top CBSE schools in Panchkula, is the first school in the region that has taken the initiative to establish ATL Labs, striving to inculcate in young brains traits like curiosity, inventiveness, and creativity as well as abilities like design mentality, computational thinking, adaptive learning, and physical computing.
The ATL lab provides students with DIY educational kits and equipment on the latest technologies in electronics, science, robotics, sensors, 3D printers, computers, and open-source microcontroller boards. The lab activities go beyond the academic curriculum and textbook learning to encourage or raise the students’ creativity levels. With this initiative, the school accentuates assisting students with the opportunity to use tools to grasp STEM concepts (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and realise their ideas through hands-on do-it-yourself mode.
